Don Fothergill, Pastor
What do you do for fun?
I have a whole variety of stuff I do for fun. I look at each one of them as
a means to putting fuel back into my tank. Some of the stuff I love to do
are ride motorcycles, hike and camp, canoe, scherenschnitte, anything having
to do with trees, anything having to do with building. You could say one of
my minor mottos is "so many projects so little time".
What is my favorite dynamic at Washington Church?
I love the fact that Washington is a lay powered church. It has taken us a
long time to transition from the idea that the pastor's job is to do all
ministry to the place where we are headed where the pastor's job is to
empower God's people to do the work of the ministry.
What would I be doing if I were not at Washington Church?
I would be living in Alaska with Joan in a small log cabin serving in a tiny
Church in a tiny community.
How do I best connect with God?
Because my days are filled with interacting with people I find that I need a
great deal of solitude time. In order to be able to share the life-giving
gospel with others I need to spend significant amounts of time every day in
prayer and meditation and study of God's word. I'm grateful that this is a
joy for me and not a burden.
How else have I made a living?
I worked at a nursery garden for a couple of years. I also worked as a house
painter for four or five years.
