Friends,

Although I hate to leave the summer behind, there’s something about mid to late fall that I just love.  Specifically, I love the opportunity to plant and transplant various trees and shrubs and perennials.  Although I’m sorry to say I’ve almost run out of room for planting more trees I still have almost an unlimited capacity for shrubs and perennials.  Although a garden isn’t much to look at toward the end of October somebody who loves and knows plants can look at all the brown foliage and all the dirt and imagine what it will look like in May.

I must confess that part or maybe even a good deal of my excitement stems from the “great deals” one can get at the end of the season.  I try to wait until things are 75 to 90% off regular price.  I can’t seem to escape the imprinting that my mother put on me in my formative years with her frugality.

By the way, I have a bunch of baby trees that I need to get rid of before they get too big.  If any of you would like Tulip trees or Golden Rain trees let me know and I’ll dig you one or more.  The trees range in sizes from 8 inches to 4 feet.  I will undoubtedly be out there digging long after Thanksgiving.  Somehow God wired me so that this is my therapy which restores my soul.

Love - your friend,

Pastor Don
