My Friends,
Although I hate to see the summer pass by, as fall approaches I get excited about planting stuff. I have a little spot at my cabin that I affectionately call my “nursery.” This is where I put all the plants I’m not quite sure what to do with and let them grow. Every year I pull 30 or 40 of them out and transplant them to a more permanent location. This year I have about two dozen trees that need to be transplanted before they get too big. Some of you may recall three or four months ago you surprised me with a gift to commemorate my 30th year of ordination into the pastorate. In view of the fact that fall is the best time for planting or transplanting most anything, we held off with the gift tree order until last week. I hope its okay with you, instead of going ahead and ordering an Osage orange tree I substituted California Redwood seedlings. I hope the attached picture is clear enough for you to see how small large things start out being. As much as I love trees and love planting and trans In 50 years when I’m dead and gone I want your kids to go up and see the Redwoods and the Sequoias (possibly the only ones alive here in Ohio) that should be over 100 feet tall. Love - your friend,
