Friends,

I thought I would let you in on the “crazier” or “zanier” side of my life.  Last week my son-in-law, Adam, turned thirty and the guys in his life had a surprise birthday party for him.  His two brothers-in-law, David and Jimmy, kidnapped him on Tuesday morning.  Adam was teaching a Bible study and they showed up at the end of the study and brought him up to our cabin.  The four of us then commenced competing in what we’ve called “The First Highland Loch Seneca Games.” Jimmy got a hold of four skirts from the Goodwill and as you can see from the pictures we donned them as kilts and we proceeded to participate in the six Highland game events.

The first event was the stone toss that Jimmy won.  The Second event was the pole throw which David won.  The third event was the hammer throw which Adam won and David nearly killed two of us with his wild throws (he left a huge gash on one of the trees).  The fourth event was the tire hoist, the fifth event was archery and the sixth event was croquet.  As you can see we were running out of Scottish games but nonetheless we had fun.  In the end Adam, the birthday boy, prevailed as the winner.

Unfortunately, my younger son-in-law Ben who is still in Scotland with my daughter, in whose honor we played the games, was unable to participate.  In years to come that will not be the case.

I have found in my life that there is nothing that does the soul so much good as a little craziness once in awhile.  I believe it keeps us sane.
